Are you living a life of passion?

June 10th, 2010 by admin View Comments »

There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

~ Nelson Mandela

Let’s be honest.

Real and raw.

Do you have areas in your life that you play too small?

I mean, in some places, are you trying too hard only to get back average rewards?

If you are ready to lose the excess weight, find a better job, have a bigger bank balance, or just find that special someone to go through life with, you need to check this out… Click Here

You see, my friends Chris and Janet Attwood (the creators and NY Times  best-selling authors of “The Passion Test”) have come up with a systematic plan to truly finding your passion and purpose in life.

Passion can turn around your health, energize your day, supercharge your relationships, and boost your finances.

Isn’t it true?

People crave being around passionate people, they attract more clients and opportunities and so they earn more money.

But that is not all. Passionate people have less stress, they inspire others to their cause, and they have little regrets.

And what’s the alternative?

How does it feel to have areas of your life, your work, your purpose, your relationships, without the levels of passion you desire or deserve?

If you are not enjoying the passionate life that makes you have to pinch yourself to believe…

It’s not your fault!

Passion is not something that is taught in school, and it’s not the right of a select few.

If you are ready for a recharge, maybe one that will last your whole life, check out what the pioneers of passion, Chris and Janet are sharing and give yourself this gift.

I give it my highest recommendation!

And let me know what you think about it, OK?

P.S. Btw, when was the last time you did something significant and life transforming for yourself? We all know it’s hard to give others what you don’t give yourself. If you are a source of strength for others… a spouse, a parent, your customers, this is just what the doctor ordered.

P.P.S. If you are ready to claim your passionate life, today is your time. It is SO powerful, you have to experience for yourself right now!

Why eating “Organic” does not always equal healthy..

June 8th, 2010 by admin View Comments »

But mom…they’re organic…can’t I have the cookies?

These days smart consumers are reading their labels. The one label that has always been the one to look for was the “organic” label. Unfortunately nowadays just because something say’s it’s organic does not mean that much.  Some organic farmers and activists say that in the United States the organic label, once the symbol of foods produced by environmentally friendly means, has with time been cheapened into a gimmicky marketing tool.

I went to Costco the other day out of curiosity and was blown away by all the “organic” and “natural” products that they were selling there. Everything from “organic”  Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, to  “organic” Heinz ketchup, Frito-Lay natural “Doritos” and “natural” Cheetos it was quite a plethora of new “organic” and natural health foods right?” .

Wrong!

A lot of consumers have mistakenly thought that if the label says it’s organic or natural than it must be healthy and must mean it’s sustainably produced and all natural. Just like I know several people who think if they bought the item at Whole Foods or some other “health food” store than it must be healthy.

There was a study done at Cornell University where researchers offered cookies to student volunteers. Some got plain cookies and others got “organic” cookies. Then they were quizzed after wards and many of the students were boasting to the researchers how they carefully read food labels and how they always try to buy organic etc.

These so-called careful organic shoppers went on and on and on about just how much better those organic cookies were versus the non-organic ones. They believed their special cookies had 40 percent fewer calories than the non-organic ones. They also said these cookies looked better, tasted better and had more fiber.

The truth was however that they were all fed the exact same cookies.  However, the perceived value of these cookies went up dramatically just because they had the label “organic” on them.

I have news for you..just because something say’s it’s organic does not mean it’s healthy. White flour and white sugar whether they’re “organic” or not does not make it healthy. You need to read these labels that are giving the picture of what you’re really buying. Organic processed food is still processed food.

Just because it’s organic cereal with organic sugar does not make it healthy!

These large companies and agribusinesses have jumped on the “organic” bandwagon because there are large profits to be had from consumers who mistakenly think they’re eating “health food” because it’s “organic” and with a relaxed “organic” standard don’t be so sure it’s good for the environment either.

Don’t get me wrong, of course I’m all for truly organic healthy foods, pesticide-free vegetables and fruits, but after seeing all these boxes of processed “organic” food in the grocery it really makes me wonder what the consumer thinks they’re buying?

There seems to have been a mad rush to slap an “organic” label on everything in sight, from cookies to clothing, and in most cases you’re just paying for that label.

That word has been slapped onto everything… so now it how much does it mean?

Look closely at some of those labels… you’ll find frozen “organic” food from China and organic junk food like those cookies clogging up supermarket aisles.

Meanwhile, genuine organic U.S. farmers can’t use that same label… because they can’t afford the certification process.

It’s a joke, the ones who are laughing are the large corporate millionaires selling their processed “organic” junk making you think you’re eating healthy.

There are lobbyists for the agribusiness and large multi-national corporations that since 2002 when the USDA took over the organic standards label that have been trying to weaken the organic standard.   A weakened organic standard helps big business and hurts consumers.

According to a Washington Post article:

“Three years ago, U.S. Department of Agriculture employees determined that synthetic additives in organic baby formula violated federal standards and should be banned from a product carrying the federal organic label. Today the same additives, purported to boost brainpower and vision, can be found in 90 percent of organic baby formula.”

“Relaxation of the federal standards, and an explosion of consumer demand, have helped push the organics market into a $23 billion-a-year business, the fastest growing segment of the food industry. Half of the country’s adults say they buy organic food often or sometimes, according to a survey last year by the Harvard School of Public Health.

But the USDA program’s shortcomings mean that consumers, who at times must pay twice as much for organic products, are not always getting what they expect: foods without pesticides and other chemicals, produced in a way that is gentle to the environment.”

“Under the original organics law, 5 percent of a USDA-certified organic product can consist of non-organic substances, provided they are approved by the National Organic Standards Board. That list has grown from 77 to 245 substances since it was created in 2002. Companies must appeal to the board every five years to keep a substance on the list, explaining why an organic alternative has not been found. The goal was to shrink the list over time, but only one item has been removed so far.”

Don’t be fooled…into believing the just because something has the word “organic” or “natural” on it that it’s good for you or good for the environment.

Consumers can’t trust the USDA Organic logo and must instead seek out reputable companies who maintain high standards and avoid synthetic additives.  In general, avoiding processed foods and purchasing from local farmers is the safest way to ensure your food is truly organic.

In the US  the following terminology is allowed on organic food products:

“100% organic” – single ingredient such as a fruit, vegetable, meat, milk and cheese (excludes water and salt).

“Organic” – multiple ingredient foods which are 95 to 100% organic.

“Made with organic ingredients” – 70% of the ingredients are organic. Can appear on the front of package, naming the specific ingredients.

“Contains organic ingredients” – contains less than 70% organic ingredients.

To say the least, organic labeling is both complicated and confusing.  However only those products that meet the ‘100% organic’ and ‘organic’ criteria are allowed to carry the USDA Organic seal.  Furthermore, the USDA emphasizes that the term ‘organic’ is not synonymous to ‘natural’ or ‘all-natural’.

Here’s a great chart from the Corucopia Institute that you download to see just how the large companies are now taking over the organic standard.

Click the picture below to access the full size chart!

So what do we do as smart consumers to make sure we’re truly eating healthy foods?

Stick to the basics, avoid processed foods altogether because just because they’re organic doesn’t mean a whole lot in terms of health. I always like the foods that don’t need to have labels in the first place..stick to the produce aisle because that’s the only place in the store where there’s truly “health food”.

Ideally get your produce from a local farm, coop, farmers market or CSA. The produce tends to be fresher and your supporting the local economy and lessening use of natural resources and pollution.  Locally grown is the way to go! Support your local farmers and start growing your own food!

Don’t know where your local farmers markets are or CSA’s visit the Local Harvest website by clicking here.

Post below what do you think about the “organic” foods showing up all over the place?

A Food revolution starts with the fork: Food Fight! Documentary

June 2nd, 2010 by admin View Comments »

There’s a great new documentary called “Food Fight” which catalogs what agribusiness has done and the small revolution that is growing where culinary artists take back the flavor by choosing smaller local and sustainable farms for their produce. As a raw and living foods green chef I can tell you the taste of a conventional tomato and an organic heirloom are night and day. If for no other reason than the produce taste incredibly better I would choose local, organic, produce hands down. If you haven’t checked out this film yet it’s been debuting mostly on the West Coast. But you can purchase a copy of the DVD as well. Visit http://www.foodfightthedoc.com to view the trailer! Features Michael Pollan and other noted chefs and educators.

Check out this video on Mcdonald’s 4yr old hamburger and fries!

Talk about chemicalized fake foods!

Shocking? :) yeah it’s pretty gross right?

Real Food Breaks Down!

How about you do find the local produce in your area to have a significant taste difference than the conventional stuff in the stores?

Strange allergic reactions? Could it be the mangos?

June 2nd, 2010 by admin View Comments »

Causes of strange allergies..could it be mangos?

P5280142So I recently had a client who contacted me with a strange itchy allergic reaction where her skin was inflamed around her lips, mouth, nasal passages that had been lasting for days. She had also experienced some gastro-intestinal upset.

She had no idea what was causing this reaction nor did her doctor so her doctor’s only option for her was to put her on steroids. She wanted a second opinion because her mom had died of kidney failure after an extensive use of steroids so did not want to go that route.

She called me as I do a lot of “investigative intuitive work” and we figured out what had caused the allergic reaction. I’m a natural troubleshooter at heart and so we started investigating and I was able to trace it back to some raw mangos she had eaten a few days before.

She was in shock that this is what was causing it but as I walked back in her time-line (this is what I call it when I do a medical intuitive session with someone–like working with someone’s energy field to draw past information with their assistance)

I was able to learn about a time when she was a child and she had a severe poison ivy reaction that landed her in the hospital. She recalled on several occasions where the incidence was so terrible that she could barely breathe and the blisters that she had were so terrible.  She also got extreme stomach pains which would seems unrelated until now.

The link and connection is that Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera, consisting of numerous species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. Mango peel contains urushiol (cashews and pistachios can also contain urushiol so if you have an allergy to either of these nuts this could be why!), the chemical in poison ivy and poison/oak and sumac that can cause urushiol-induced contact dermatitis in susceptible people. Those with a history of poison ivy or poison oak may be most at risk for such an allergic reaction.Urushiol is also present in mango leaves and vines.

This is the oil, which for people that are sensitized to, will cause the characteristic delayed allergic reaction. Up to 30% of people have no allergic reaction when in contact with the oils from poison oak or poison ivy. Most will become sensitized to it with repeated exposure. The urushiol oil is found in the nut shell of the cashew fruit (though not in the cashew fruit itself), and in the mango plant sap as well as the skin of the mango fruit.  The mango fruit skin has a lesser concentration of urushiol, though still with some potential for the delayed skin rash with more sensitive people.

Mango allergies are often noticed soon after eating a mango but may take several hours or days to develop in some cases.  Typical mango allergy symptoms are blisters around the mouth and severe itching. This usually takes several hours to develop, so you many not realize that your symptoms are caused by a mango allergy.

Here’s what we did naturally to help calm down her rash that you can do too if this is an issue for you or someone you know.

As many of you know I studied clinical aromatherapy so I often will provide alternative approaches using essential oils as I have found them to be quite effective in clearing up conditions with little to no side-effects.

As an acute measure here’s what I had her do to help provide some quick relief.

1) put 6-9 drops each of tea tree and peppermint oil in a tablespoon of coconut oil or calamine lotion and apply to the affected areas.

This helped control the itching reaction (btw this also will work for a poison ivy/poison oak reaction many times). If your rashes/blisters are not oozing than you can try applying them directly to the rash/blisters. The tea tree/peppermint mix will both provide pain relief and can work to Dry the rash and soothes the itch.

2) Dab it on whenever you feel the itch, and at night before going to bed. Keep it up until the last flaky bit of skin has gone. It may take a week or two to clear.

3) You can also add about 20-30 drops tea tree oil to the bath and soak in it or do an apple cider vinegar bath soak can also provide relief.

I also work with herbal medicines and cleansing to help my clients trace down to the source of the issues as much as possible.

So here’s the underlying issue when we’re dealing with allergies/sensitivities or allergic reactions. If you’re experiencing allergic reactions, your system was probably exposed to a certain toxin during a very weakened immune state at some time in your life..very likely childhood and hence you have developed antibodies against this “foreign invader” that it now wants to attack and this can create a histamine or inflammatory reaction to something in the future that is either the same or somewhat related.

In the case of the mangos they are related to the same family of poison ivy and her system was well aware of the reaction it had suffered and it immediately had started triggering the immune system response.

Now here’s the interesting part…just like certain foods may not “bother you” when you’re younger and as you grow older you can oftentimes become more “sensitive” to these foods or environmental toxins..this can happen as your gut lining becomes damaged and your immune system is weakened or can stem from genetic weaknesses that are being expressed.

Genetic Factors and Influence:

When doing DNA testing with clients concerning the genetic factors that can be at play is EPHX (Microsomal Epoxide Hydrolase) this gene is in large part responsible for how well you will detoxify chemicals and foreign antibodies.  Epoxides are toxic, highly reactive foreign chemicals present in cigarette smoke, car exhaust, charcoal-grilled meat, and smoke from burning wood, pesticides, and alcohol. The body’s way of dealing with epoxides is through the enzyme microsomal EPHX, which detoxifies these foreign compounds. Due to a SNP on the EPHX gene, people with lowered EPHX activity will have difficulty detoxifying harmful substances and thus be particularly vulnerable to their effects.

Hormones/Immune System/Natural Body Defenses

During our 20s-30’s nature tries to super ramp up all defenses, hormonal activity and health in order to allow you to be in your prime of “reproductive activity”, after this age most of these hormones drop, immune system tends to drop..and other signs and symptoms of “aging” being occuring with greater rapidity.

One of the best ways to prevent this onslaught of breakdown in your system at the biological level is by keeping your immune system in tact and working very effectively for you and not against you.

Protecting the Liver Protects you

A large part of this function comes from the protective effects proper liver function provides for you. As your liver function degrades so does your overall health. I’m going to be sharing more about these functions and effects on the upcoming Reversing Aging Seminar. If you haven’t signed up yet for it, please do so you don’t miss out.

Underlying Reasons Why you may be experiencing Allergic Reactions/Warts/Skin Issues

Weakened Immune System
Weakened Skin System
Weakened Intestinal System
Weakened Liver/Gall Bladder
Weakened Glandular System

Many times this weakened state will stem from underlying parasitical, fungal or viral infections that are lurking within your system and can subsist in the synovial fluids in dormant states.

As we rebuild and restructure our internal cleansing systems, and strengthen our immune systems we provide an environment where we have less reactions to our “everyday” world.

I also have touched on this but not very much yet but just like our “minds” seem to hold onto and store memories..so do our bodies..I’m going to do another post about this because the connection between mind/body/spirit is very strong and is not something that should be overlooked. We’ve thought of them as separate but alas what I have found working as an energetic healer and medical intuitive is that they’re indeed very connected.  I will share more about this in future posts.

So I realize that was a pretty long post..but I hope you found the information useful..

So with my client we’re now working on cleaning up her blood system using a combination of specific herbs, diet and protocols to support her liver etc. so she can relieve herself of these allergies altogether.

I’m a mango lover and really like pistachios and cashews as well..and would be unhappy if I couldn’t eat them…ugh!

Have you ever had experience with poison ivy infections, mango reactions or other food/plant allergies? If so it may be time to look into getting some help.

I was considering writing a series on nut allergies as a lot of people have issues with them which makes it challenging for them if they’re trying to follow a raw foods diet sometimes..if you’d like more info on this or if this interests you please let me know by posting below.

Please post below and I invite you to share this post with your friends/family etc. you can use the retweet or FB share buttons on top of any of the buttons below. Help spread the word.

Much love,

Chef Dina
