Some tips on Sprouting!
SPROUTS ARE NUTRITIONAL POWERHOUSES!
They are a LIVING FOOD!
Leafy Sprouts include: Alfalfa, Broccoli, Clover, Radish, Fenugreek, onion, etc.
8 tips to Healthy Long Lasting Sprouts
- Seeds: choose organic seeds, store dormant seeds in clear glass jars, frozen, refrigerated or at room temperature. Soaking: Soaking seeds ends its dormancy and begins a new life! It turns a dormant seed into a nutritional powerhouse.
- Water: Use chlorine free water. It is the key ingredient! Use it liberally! Rule of thumb:3-4 times water to seeds. Given proper moisture the seeds will germinate.
- Rinsing: Rinse well, swirl the jar. Hey key here is to keep sprouting seeds moist. Rinse 2-3 times daily depending on how warm it is in your area.
- Drain It is Essential to drain thoroughly after rinsing. Sitting in a puddle is the most common cause of crop failure.
- Air Circulation: Be sure the spouts don’t completely cover the opening of the mesh – so they can “breathe” while growing – otherwise they can die. Also don’t put them in a closed cabinet.
- Hull: Place sprouts in bowl with water, remove hulls then GREEN your leafy sprouts by placing in indirect sunlight
- Cleanliness: You sprouting mesh’s, jars, etc., should be sterile. Wash in between uses with lemon juice, vinegar or non chlorine bleach
- Storage: Properly stored, fresh sprouts will keep for up to 6 weeks in your refrigerator but fresher is better. Never refrigerate wet sprouts.
- Talk to your sprouts, sing to them or play classical music and be sure to give them lots of LOVE!
- Eat More Sprouts! Grow More Often!
Be sure to use the hulling process on store bought sprouts to increase their vitality and extend their shelf life.
Home Grown Sprouts will last up to 6 weeks in your refrigerator when well cared for unlike store bought sprouts
